The deputy chair of the parliament, Maya Manolova, has invited all civil organizations and movements having ideas for amendments to the Election Code to take part in the national round table, which is to be held on 18 June 2013 at 10 am in hall “East” of the National Assembly, 2 Narodno Sabranie Sq.
With the representatives of the civil organizations, the deputy Speaker of the Parliament expects to discuss fundamental ideas for amendments to the election rules as well as the steps for adoption of a new election code. Maya Manolova has announced that a proposal to establish a special parliamentary committee in charge of drawing up the new election provisions was to be moved in the parliament. She underscored that civil organizations and movements should not be kept at distance from the process of drawing up of the new election rules but should be an active participant.
The Deputy Speaker of the parliament noted that one of the citizens’ basic demands was for changes to the election rules and for a new election code. In the words of Maya Manolova it is necessary to adopt such rules which will ensure honest elections and will allow participation of the citizens in the political process. She pointed out that democracy implied inclusion of people not ignoring and demotivating them to go to the polls. In her view the existing election law could not ensure honest elections.
