National Assembly President Mihail Mikov met with the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, H.E. Matthias Hopfner

The Chair of the National Assembly, Mihail Mikov has met on 26 September 2013 with the ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, H. E. Matthias Hopfner.

The two officials shared the opinion that in the framework of the European Union the Bulgarian – German relations could be considered strategic and extremely close.

The head of the Bulgarian parliament has noticed that Bulgaria appreciates highly this precious partnership and has underscored Bulgaria will never forget the support extended by Germany – in particular the support of the Bundestag and the Bundesrat for the full membership of Bulgaria in the European Union.

Mihail Mikov defined the EU Strategy for the Danube Region an important stage in the partnership and added the latter bears great potential and untapped opportunities.

The Speaker of the National Assembly acquainted the diplomat with the priorities of the 42nd National Assembly and pointed to the big volume of work completed in the short term of its existence. Among the priorities of the near future, Mihail Mikov, mentioned the State Budget bill for 2014 and the amendments to the Public Procurement Act that will give positive signal to the Bulgarian and foreign entrepreneurs and investors. As a priority he also pointed solving problems of the most vulnerable social groups and the fight against corruption.

H.E. Matthias Hopfner informed the President of the National Assembly about the parliamentary elections held in Germany recently and emphasized on the importance of the parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.
