“I was truly saddened by the news about the passing of the great film director Rangel Valchanov. Please, accept the sincerest condolences and sympathy on my and on behalf of the deputies of the 42nd National Assembly for the big loss”, reads the letter. He notes that today we part with one of the brightest names in the Bulgarian film art. The art of Rangel Valchanov had enjoyed the recognition and high praise of the film art community and the public not only in Bulgaria but also abroad. His numerous international awards made him popular among the connoisseurs of the world cinema, states the chair of the parliament. In his words with his movies “On a Small Island” , “Sun and Shadow”, “The Inspector and the night” , “The Unknown Soldier's Patent Leather Shoes”, “Where are you going” Rangel Valcahanov not only was writing the history of the Bulgarian cinema, he was also creating its classics.

“For all of us Rangel Valchanov was much more than a brilliant scriptwriter and film director, he was the epitome of the talent, the vitality and the wisdom of the whole nation, proof of our deserved place in the contemporary world culture. We would not forget his sensitivity and elegant self-irony that will give us strenght throughout most difficult moments”, writes the chair of the National Assembly.
