02/11/2013

The president of the National Assembly, Mihail Mikov, has attended on Saturday the religious service devoted to Archangel's All Souls' Day held in the Military Museum at the Central Cemetery of Sofia city. The religious ceremony was attended also by the Republic of Bulgaria’s President, Rosen Plevneliev, the Minister of Defence, Angel Naydenov and the Chief of Staff, General Simeon Simeonov. His Holiness, Bulgarian Patriarch and Metropolitan of Sofia, Neofit, has served a joint mass in commemoration of the departed, together with the Bishop of Znepole.

Every year on the Saturdays, a week before the feast of St. Archangel Michael’s Day, the Bulgarian Church honors the memory of all Bulgarian soldiers, who perished on the battlefields defending their faith and the fatherland, thus repeating the sacrifice of Jesus. Bulgarian soldiers had shown miracles of courage by entrusting their fates in the hands of God, said in his sermon the Patriarch. Let us recall today our brave volunteers who took part in the Russo-Turkish liberation war, the heroes from the Balkan Wars and the First World War, and those who perished in the Second World War, added the Patriarch of Bulgaria.

The Archangel's All Souls' Day falls on the Saturday before the Feast of St. Archangel Michael – November 8. On this day is honored the memory of the dead, and recognition of army officers and soldiers who died for Bulgaria is extended. Each Orthodox Church holds service in memory of the deceased.
