National Assembly President urges lawmakers to commit to work out policies for permanent integration of people with disabilities

The President of the National Assembly, Mihail Mikov, has urged the deputies to commit themselves to working out legislation and policies aimed at the permanent integration in society, at higher self-esteem and equality of the people with disabilities.

At the beginning of the sitting Mihail Mikov stated that 3rd December marks the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. Every year the United Nations Organization emphasizes different aspects of the life of disabled people – their integration, access to public buildings, their right to decent work and life. This year’s theme of the Disabled People’s Day is: “Break barriers, open doors: for an inclusive society and development for all”.

The chair of the parliament stated the updated Strategy for equal opportunities of people with disabilities, which time frame is set until 2015, abuts this group of people. He added the highly humane goals set in the Strategy require the consistent and proactive efforts of all institutions, NGOs and citizens. The realization of these goals is a measure of how civilized we are.
