06/01/2014

The President of the National Assembly Mihail Mikov has attended on January 6, 2014 the solemn Epiphany service on the consecration of the military colors and the sacred flags of Bulgaria’s Army. The ceremony was held by the Patriarch of Bulgaria Neofit in front of the Monument of the Unknown Soldier in the capital Sofia.

The solemn service was also attended by the Republic of Bulgaria’s President Rosen Plevneliev, the Prime Minister Plamen Oresharski, the Defense Minister Angel Naydenov , the Chief of Staff General Simeon Simeonov, cabinet members, the Mayor of Sofia Yordanka Fandakova, local government representatives, high military officials, members of patriotic associations, public figures and citizens.

Today we pray to God to keep the peace in our country, we pray for the protection of our fatherland and, as the old tradition goes, we bless the military colors and the sacred flags of the Bulgarian Army, noted His Holiness Patriarch Neofit. He recalled that the consecration of the Army's colors is part of an old Christian ritual,  that is to use the hallowed water at Epiphany to blessing all worshippers in order to purge their sins and chase the hostile powers away. Let us all, together - the army and the mundane power – extend a prayer to God to plant in the hearts of our compatriots peace, accord and brotherly love, Patriarch Neofit has called.

At the ritual service were consecrated the military flags of the National Guard Unit, of the Military Academy “G. S. Rakovski”, of different military aviation units and the sacred flags of regiments that had left trace in the history of Bulgaria.
