The Draft of the new Election Code, submitted by the Coalition for Bulgaria parliamentary group, has been approved today by the National Assembly. "Today’s vote sends to history affairs like “Kostinbrod”, the fraud with ballots and the controlled voting", has stated the vice-president of the parliament Maya Manolova. In favor of the draft have voted 110 deputies, 74 voted against and 8 abstained. Before adopting the above draft, the lawmakers have rejected the bill to amend the current Election Code, submitted by the parliamentary group of PP GERB, by 73 “yes” votes, 66 “against” and 40 abstentions.
The new Election Code draft envisages preferential system of voting in elections, including in the one for National Assembly. The draft suggests 7 % reshuffle threshold. Another novelty would be the machine voting, the results of which will be counted in parallel with paper ballots. The ballots will be printed by the Bulgarian National Bank and will be treated as securities.
