Another type of voting machine was demonstrated at the National Assembly. This is the third presentation in the sequence of initiatives relating to the new Election Code. The presentation was streamed live on the website of the National Assembly and on Channel 2 of the Bulgarian National Television.
The vice-president of the National Assembly, Maya Manolova, has noticed that pilot machine voting could be initiated in Bulgaria during the elections for European parliament. Demonstrations of different machines will be carried out in the parliament, while the Council of Ministers will hold public procurement tender and proceed with the final machine selection.
The machine presented today provides opportunities for voting to people with disabilities. Blind people could be directed through earphones. The voting system could be started through different means – by a button located at the table of the head of the election section, or through a smart card activated by the head of the section, after he checks the identity of the voter.
The firm offering the machine warrants the anonymity of the vote.
