Parliament enacts internship contracts for young people with secondary or university education not older than 29 years
06/02/2014
The provisions were enacted with amendments to the Labor Code passed on first reading. The changes regulate the internship contracts for high school or university graduates, younger than 29 years, who have not work experience in the field of their studies or trade. The bill was submitted by the Council of Ministers in implementation of the recommendations of the EU Council for creation of measures guaranteeing youth employment. Under the law the internship contract is considered a different type of labor contract. Internship contract with a particular  individual could be signed only once in his/her lifetime for a term of 6 to 12 months. Young people will be hired on internship positions corresponding to their qualifications and field of studies. The length and remuneration of the contract will be agreed between the parties. 14 days after the end of the contract the employer will provide the worker with recommendation, certifying the skills acquired during the internship. The bills for amendment to the Labor Code tabled by the PG of GERB and ATAKA were rejected.
