The National Assembly has elected Ivilina Alexieva as chairperson of the Central Electoral Commission. She was nominated by the Coalition for Bulgaria parliamentary group and 14 civic organizations.
The newly elected CEC’s head Ivilina Aleksieva is a lawyer with 13 years of professional experience. She has been member of the expert group in charge of drafting the previous Election Code, passed by the 39th National Assembly. She has been executive director of the Institute of Modern Politics since 2009.
Maria Musorlieva was elected as deputy chair of CEC. She was nominated by the Ataka party PG. The nominated by Movement for Rights and Freedoms PG Sevinch Solakova became CEC’s secretary.
The National Assembly has also proposed a list of candidates for the rest of CEC’s members to be appointed by the President of Bulgaria.
