The President of the National Assembly, Mihail Mikov, received on 24 March 2014 a delegation of Sts. Cyril and Methodius Society of Bessarabian Bulgarians in Bolgrad – Ukraine. Bulgarians living there are descendants of emigrants from the regions of Yambol and Sliven.
At the meeting issues, related to the ensuring of possibilities for the study of Bulgarian in Sunday schools under the Mother Tongue and Motherland Studies programme were discussed. The guests explained that there were many children willing to study Bulgarian language.
Among the topics discussed at the meeting were also improving the transport connections between Bulgaria and Bolgrad and the procedures for obtaining Bulgarian citizenship. Expressed was a wish for establishing closer relations with municipalities in Bulgaria.
The President of the National Assembly has offered concrete measures to assist the Bulgarian minority in Ukraine.
