The National Assembly has traditionally participated in the world-wide "Earth Hour" campaign against the global climate change.

The panoramic lighting of the buildings of the Bulgarian Parliament was put out at  20.30 hours on 29 March 2014. This year for the first time the lights of the National Assembly were out all night as an expression of greater involvement and support to the idea of ​​solidarity with the  efforts to prevent adverse climate change.

The large-scale initiative is taking place around the globe where millions of people switch their lights off for an hour as a sign of commitment to coping with climate change and environment related problems.

The National Assembly supports this initiative as it is designed to focus on humanity's environmental problems whose timely and correct resolution would provide a better future for children and for our planet.

Parliament's involvement in the initiative is part of wider efforts to protect the environment, including reduction of paper use and waste separate collection and recycling introduced as of January 1, 2014.
