National Assembly President Mihail Mikov awarded the Grand Prize of the International Philatelic Exhibition "Balkanfila 2014" on Atadan Tunaci from Turkey for his collection "The Postal History of e Ottoman Railways". It represents the period before 1900, when the postal shipments for the most part were carried by rail. The collection shows the places where the post offices were located along the railways, what their postmarks were and what special stamps were used by the railways.
The Grand Prize of Balkanfila for Bulgarian participation was awarded to Orlin Todorov from the town of Dupnitsa for his collection "Bulgaria - Little Lion", which includes Bulgarian stamps issued during the period 1889 – 1901. He has been involved for 10 years in philately and presented at the exhibition Bulgarian Posts editions from 1889 to 1901.
The Grand National Prize of "Bulgarian Posts" EAD dedicated to 135 years post communications went to Nikolay Mandrovski from Russia.
The awards were presented at a special ceremony in Vidin. Many participants were awarded gold , silver and bronze medals and certificates.
The International Philatelic Exhibition "BALKANPHILA 2014" is being held from 5 to 7 April in Vidin and includes 250 boards divided into five competition categories - "Postal History", "Traditional Philately", "Maksimafilia", "Youth Category" and "1 Board". The exhibition is organized by the 42nd National Assembly, the Union of Bulgarian Philatelists, Bulgarian Posts EAD, Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications, Vidin Regional Administration with the support of the Federation of European Philatelic Associations.
