The Ministry of Youth and Sports is working on an ordinance that will outline the system and structure of grassroots sport. This was announced by Minister Mariana Georgieva during the blitz control before the parliamentary Committee on Children, Youth and Sport.

The MPs from the Parliamentary Group of Political Party GERB Georgi Andonov and Ivan Cholakov showed interest in the criteria according to which BGN 20 million of the Ministry’s investment program were allocated. Georgi Andonov wanted to hear in particular about the way of allocating funds to Blagoevgrad.

Every town or village should have a sport facility of its own, settlements should not be distinguished by ethnic criterion, Minister Georgieva said in response. She pointed out that the government is guided by the idea of restoring justice and the policy for closing gaps in the regions. "These are places where there has never been single sport facility and a study of the European Union shows that in terms of physical activity Bulgaria ranks second to last", said the Minister.

Under the government investment program, the amount allocated for sport is BGN 53 million to be distributed through the municipalities, with another BGN 20 million allocated through the Ministry of Youth and Sports, explained further the Minister.

MP Khalil Letifov from the Parliamentary Group of MRF posed a question on the novelties about the new European programme "Erasmus Plus", Minister Georgieva explained that it will be referred centrally from Brussels, but the Ministry will assist clubs and associations to apply under it. Two million euro is allocated for youth and sports.

In the nearest future the Committee will have a dedicated meeting to report on the results of the Bulgarian athletes at the Winter Olympics in Sochi, said the Committee Chairman Hristo Monov. Before that MP Margarita Nikolova from the PG of Ataka asked Minister Georgieva about her assessment of the Bulgarian Olympic team performance in Sochi.

"I am looking forward to receiving the official report of BOC, then we shall supplement it with the expertise of the Ministry of Youth and Sports and only after that shall we announce our assessment in an appropriate institutional and public manner", the Minister explained in response. She said further that after some meetings held she has concluded about errors in the methodology such as changing coaches on the eve of the Olympics, errors in the preparation, inadequate sport facilities and poor logistics in the sports medicine. Throughout the training period the BOC committee responsible for the preparation of our Olympians has not convened even once in a meeting, said the Minister.
