With 7 votes "in favor", the Committee for Cooperation with Civil Society Organizations and Movements adopted unanimously the report on its activities during the third session of the 42nd National Assembly. "This National Assembly has one single priority - to work in the best interest of the people and address in favor of the citizens their problems with various institutions and monopolies, accumulated for years", said Committee Chairperson Maya Manolova.

She reported on the number of discussions, hearings and initiatives held during the last session by the Committee for Cooperation with Civil Society Organizations and Movements, and what is being done to implement the Committee decisions.

Maya Manolova paid special attention to the 700,000-strong petition of the civil movement "DNES" against the arbitrariness of monopolies, which was submitted to the National Assembly as early as December 12, 2010. She went on to explain in detail what has been done regarding the claims in the petition, namely: the Energy Act twice amended in favor of consumers; recently adopted amendments to the Consumer Credit Act and the Protection of Competition Act; the Consumer Protection Commission is about to enhance its rank and authority to those of an agency; amendments to the Civil Code and Private Enforcement Act  are to be adopted to protect the interests of the people.

The Committee decided to send within one week a detailed written response to the Civil Movement "DNES" regarding the work completed in response to the petition claims.

Things begin to happen, slowly and gradually. The lack of accountability to the citizens is however a weakness, opined Angelika Tsokova, Chairperson of the civil movement "DNES".

GERB MP Totyu Mladenov requested to include in the report of the committee the Law on Volunteering adopted unanimously on first reading by the Committee on the proposal of GERB. He expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that despite the consensus reached, the bill was not considered in plenary on first reading. Maya Manolova committed to insist for this to happen after the Easter recess of Deputies.
