The Bulgarian Constitution was not given to the Bulgarian people by the king, the prince or the monarch. It is a great creation by the constituent fathers and one that we should take pride in today and draw on the high legal standards set in it, said the President of the National Assembly Mihail Mikov at the Solemn Session by which the Varna juridical community marked on April 11, 2014 the 135th anniversary of the Tarnovo Constitution.

Freedom is the greatest achievement that runs like a connecting thread through the creation of the constituent fathers in Tarnovo, noted Mihail Mikov, adding that today's Bulgarian Constitution draws precisely on the fundamental rights laid down in Tarnovo. The anniversary of the Tarnovo Constitution should be celebrated and passed like a string of history to the future of Bulgaria; it should be our mainstay, pride and dearest example for our deeds today and tomorrow, said the President.

The Tarnovo Constitution governs in an excellent and balanced manner the protection of property rights and the freedom of press; it regulates equality regardless of gender, religion or ownership status, underscored the Speaker of the National Assembly. It is an outstanding paragon of democracy adopted by the people described by Simeon Radev as wearing dark attire, who despite all the controversy, disputes and heated discussions in Tarnovo succeeded in making a "law by the people and for the people", he went on to say.

At the festive session honorary plaques were awarded on 12 worthy Varna jurists - judges, lawyers and notaries. The awards were presented by the National Assembly President Mihail Mikov and professor Snezhana Nacheva.

In Varna Mihail Mikov also took part in the celebration, by which the Varna Court of Appeal, the courts under the Varna District Court judicial region and the entire legal community of the seaside capital marked the 135th anniversary of the Tarnovo Constitution. He took the opportunity to converse with representatives of the juridical community in Varna.
