On the occasion of 1 May – the Day of Labor and International Workers’ Solidarity, the president of the National Assembly, Mihail Mikov, has sent congratulatory addresses to the heads of the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria and the Labor Confederation “Podkrepa”  Plamen Dimitrov and Konstantin Trenchev.

With the letters the chair of the parliament congratulates the thousands of members of the two trade unions in Bulgaria, as well as all other working people in the country on the occasion of May 1st. In the address he points out that for more than 120 years now Bulgaria expresses its respect towards the working people, towards their aspirations and struggles for jobs and dignified life.

“ The holiday is an occasion to assure you that I praise highly the role of the two trade-unions - KNSB and “Podkrepa”, which were created in conditions allowing  free association, in view to represent and defend the interests of the workers and the employees, with the aim to lower and abolish poverty, writes in his letters the chair of the parliament. He notes that the very active participation of the trade unions in the social dialogue in all of its forms –tripartite cooperation, collective bargaining, settlement of collective labor disputes - all in the name of justice and human dignity, is extremely useful for the society.

“At the same time I am aware that we all are in debt towards the working people of Bulgaria, those of yesterday and of the present day – towards our parents, brothers, sisters and children, in building of the social state, which the Constitution of 1991 had envisaged, declared Mihail Mikov. In his words the measures undertaken by the 42nd National Assembly since the summer of 2013 and at the beginning of the current year are still not sufficient, but they are an expression of the firm will to go along the chosen direction.

Allow me to express the will and the desire to walk together on this path. Let us do it by the way of the dialogue and the constructive discussions, with the active participation of the government and the employers’ organizations. This is the only foundation for the improvement of the working conditions and the life of all Bulgarian citizens within the framework of a truly democratic, based on the rule of law and social state”, the letters further read.
