National Assembly President Mihail Mikov has met with the Head of Rossotrudnichestvo (Russian federal government agency under the jurisdiction of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs) Konstantin Kosachev

The chair of the National Assembly Mihail Mikov has met with the head of Rossotrudnichestvo Konstantin Kosachev, who is on a visit to Bulgaria. The two parties discussed topics concerning the development of the cooperation, the parliamentary diplomacy and the crisis in Ukraine.

The speaker of Bulgaria’s parliament welcomed the guest and his visit as a possibility for deepening of the cultural and educational relations between the two countries. Mihail Mikov declared that Bulgaria appreciates extremely the relations with Russia, relations with deep historic roots, based currently on equality and pragmatism. The development of the trade-economic relations remains one of the top priorities for us, underscored Mihail Mikov.

An essential part of the talks was dedicated to the events in Ukraine. The president of the National Assembly informed the guest about the decision adopted today by the parliamentary foreign policy committee in this respect. Its stance reflects the deep concern of the deepening of the crisis, something that has led to new victims. The guest has presented the position of his country on the crisis and has voiced fears that it could bring about negative consequences for Europe and the world.

Mihail Mikov stressed on the committee’s stance calling for the renewal of the Geneva’s dialogue by the four parties involved. The dialogue should consider urgently a mechanism for implementing measures for the de-escalation of the tension in Ukraine.

The head of  parliament expressed the concern of Bulgaria of the possible occurrence of misbalance in the energy sources in the region. With reference to this he confirmed the interest of Bulgaria in the construction of the South Stream Project.
