13/05/2014

Opportunities for enlargement of the economic cooperation between Bulgaria and China were among the key topics discussed by the president of the National Assembly Mihail Mikov and Mrs. Sun Chunlan, member of the Political Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party’s Central Committee  and party's secretary in the city of Tiendzin. Sun Chunlan is on a visit to Bulgaria from 12 to 14 May 2014.

The president of the National Assembly Mihail Mikov noted this year is the 65th anniversary since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Bulgaria and China and expressed confidence the anniversary will be marked accordingly. We follow with interest the development of China and we are glad at your successes, Mikov noticed. He said the traditionally good and friendly relations between the two countries take gradually more economic dimensions. Their development, he asserted,   will go upward in the future. He added Bulgaria expects the signing of the agreement for export of meat and dairy products, a document that will facilitate the flow of Bulgarian products in China.

Mihail Mikov informed Mrs. Sun Chunlan about the establishment of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Process for Cooperation in South East Europe in Bucharest. I think good cooperation between the Balkan countries will help the development of the transport and economic relations in the region and will ease the opportunities for investments, including for the Chinese ones, Mikov underscored. According to the speaker of Bulgaria’s parliament, investments in infrastructure projects represent good opportunity for the Chinese partners and gave example with the construction of European corridor № 4, from the Danube River to Thessaloniki, Greece. The construction of the tunnel “Petrohan” is to give additional value to the above corridor, Mikov added.

Bulgaria and China are good partners, they possess good foundation allowing for a useful, mutually beneficial cooperation, Mrs. Sun Chunlan has noted. She stressed Bulgaria was the second country in the world to recognize the People’s Republic of China in 1949 and added China considers as very important the development of the relations between the two countries. In her words the closer contacts between the countries' legislatures in the last years had strengthened and stimulated the economic relations and the trade increase. Mrs. Sun Chunlan noted China is interested to invest in different fields.

Mrs. Sun Chunlan has presented her city of Tiendzin, expaining this is one of the four cities in China still under Central ruling, the third largest after Shanghai and Beijing and forth in respect to population - 12.9 million inhabitants. Tiendzin is a port city with a strong economy and ranks first as per GDP in China.

The meeting between the two leaders was attended by the chairman of the parliamentary internal and public order committee Atanas Merdzhanov, by the chairman of the transport, information technologies and communications committee, Kamen Kostadinov, by the deputy chair of the foreign policy committee Valery Zhablianov and by the deputy chairman of the healthcare committee Emil Raynov.
