PARLIAMENT RATIFIED THE NORTH ATLANTIC TREATY

With 226 votes in favour and 4 against the National Assembly ratified the North Atlantic Treaty, signed on 4 April 1949 in Washington.
President of the Republic of Bulgaria Georgi Parvanov signed the decree for promulgation of the ratification act in plenary hall.
The ratification documents were signed by National Assembly President Prof. Ognian Gerdjikov and Minister of Foreign Affairs Solomon Passy.
The ratification was followed by statements of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria and the Chairpersons of the Parliamentary Groups of the 39th National Assembly.
The sitting was attended by Vice-President of the Republic of Bulgaria Angel Marin, Prime Minister of the Republic of Bulgaria Simeon Saxe-Coburg Gotha, Council of Ministers. Constitutional Court President and Justices, Supreme Cassation Court and Supreme Administrative Court Presidents, Prosecutor General, Chief of General Staff of the Bulgarian Armed Forces, Sofia Mayor, representatives of the registered religions, former Presidents and Vice-Presidents of the Republic, former Prime Ministers, MPs of the 7th Grand National Assembly, Bulgarian media editors-in-chief, diplomats and public organisations have been invited to attend the ceremony.
