We are still indebted towards our children, on how we care for them today depends the successful development and future of our society as a whole, National Assembly President Tsetska Tsacheva has stated at a meeting with the UNICEF’s Representative for Bulgaria, Tanya Radochay. The meeting coincided with the day marking the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Children. The event was attended by experts and civil society representatives in the field of children’s rights.
Tanya Radochay has thanked the leadership of the National Assembly for this meeting held on the same day marking 25 years since the adoption of the Convention. She underscored the Convention was a widely known document but unfortunately not implemented entirely, despite the fact that the countries which had ratified it were making efforts to comply.
The Chair of Parliament Tsetska Tsacheva stressed the rights of children are at the focal point of the National Assembly and despite the achievements – the adopted Children’s Protection Act and National Strategy on Deinstitutionalization of the Care for Children, the society was still facing a lot of challenges and responsibilities with regards to the protection and development of children. The leader of the National Assembly also added representatives of the National Council for Children were always welcome to the parliament to discuss ideas.
At the meeting the participants have discussed the themes about the quality education and health care, the justice system, the system of family assistance and how to offer equal opportunities for development to all Bulgarian children.
The National Assembly President Tsetska Tsacheva has promised to acquaint the parliamentary committees concerned with the issues raised by the participants.
