03/12/2014

The National Assembly has heard the response of Prime Minister Boyko Borisov in connection with the statement of Russia’s President Vladimir Putin declaring an end to the construction of the “South Stream” pipeline through Bulgaria.

Prime Minister Boyko Borisov asked the National Assembly to let the government  undertake steps for obtaining the signed contracts about the project “South Stream”. He stressed the support of the National Assembly was important for the rescuing of “South Stream”. "I don’t accept arguments, explaining it as diversification, if the Russian gas was to get around and enter Bulgaria through Greece", he stressed. He declared Bulgaria was to insist that Brussels asks from Greece that the latter would provide gas to Bulgaria in accordance with the Third liberalization package of the EU. He noted that unfortunately the procedures for construction of the interconnectors had been delayed.

The lawmakers decided against discussing the draft declaration moved by the PG of BSP Leftist Bulgaria related to the critical situation created with regards to the South Stream project. The proposal to consider the motion today was rejected by 97 “against” votes, 20 in favor and 78 abstentions.
