National Assembly President Tsetska Tsacheva has opened a meeting in connection with the 2014 International Volunteer Day. She expressed hope that legislation regulating volunteer activities would be adopted not later than the spring session of the Assembly. She noted volunteerism is part of the European values and the principle of solidarity.

The world we live in becomes more unpredictable and complicated thus increasing the role and importance of volunteers, she noticed. We, in Bulgaria, have also very good examples in this respect and added that during the last difficult year, throughout the natural disasters, examples of solidarity and compassion  towards other people had been present and that this was cause of many in the Bulgarian society.

At the forum took part representatives of institutions and non- government organizations, which carry out activities in Bulgaria with the help of volunteers. The meeting was also an occasion of the International Volunteer Day for economic and social development. Tsetska Tsacheva delivered an address towards the participants.
