National Assembly President Tsetska Tsacheva has met with World Bank’s Director for Central and East Europe, and the Baltic States Mamta Murthi.

At the meeting Mamta Murthi noted that for more than 20 years the partnership between Bulgaria and the World Bank has been strong and useful and expressed hope it will continue at a new level. She added the World Bank has an extensive and comprehensive program for cooperation with Bulgaria and is aspiring to help the development of the country with its experience and expertise.

Mamta Murthi noted the aim of the current visit to the National Assembly was to launch discussion on the different systems analysis of Bulgaria. The analysis has to identify the key challenges faced by Bulgaria and the opportunities for faster economic growth. Mamta Murthi outlined three basic politics that could lead to effective changes. First is strengthening the state institutions by reforming the public administration and the judiciary. Second come the policies related to the education and acquisition of professional qualifications and skills; the third covers the expenditures in the social field.

The head of the National Assembly Tsetska Tsacheva informed the guest about the activities of the parliament during the first three months of its constitution. She noted in particular the measures undertaken to stabilize public spending and to lower the budget deficit. Tsetska Tsacheva explained that the government of Prime Minister Boyko Borisov had approved yesterday its program and the National Assembly had agreed with great majority on the updated strategy for reforms in the judicial system. She underscored a reform in the education field was also under way. The parliamentary Science and Education Committee has approved already a completely new bill on the primary and secondary education, a new law that has to meet the expectations of the society for better quality education and ensure support for the development of every child. The chair of parliament added this week’s agenda of the National Assembly foresees consideration and adoption of a Strategy on the Development of the Higher Education in the Republic of Bulgaria for the period 2014-2020. The focal point of the document envisages policies aimed at stimulating Bulgarian children to remain and study in the country, Tsetska Tsacheva stressed.
