The members of the National Assembly have paid a minute of silence in honor of Zhelyu Zhelev, President of the Republic of Bulgaria in the period 1990 – 1997. The Chair of the National Assembly Tsetska Tsacheva has reported the sad news.
“Zhelyu Zhelev has left us– the president, whose work as statesman will always be linked with the beginning of the democratic changes in Bulgaria”, she noted.
“Zhelyu Zhelev was an example for civic and intellectual dignity, uncompromising in his loyalty to freedom and democracy. His contribution to the democratic progress and the European orientation of Bulgaria will always be remembered and respected by our society”, Tsetska Tsacheva pointed out from the rostrum.
