Prosecutor General Sotir Tsatsarov presents to National Assembly President Tsetska Tsacheva a draft for amendment to the Criminal Procedure Code
09/02/2015

The Prosecutor General Sotir Tsatsarov has acquainted the National Assembly’s President Tsetska Tsacheva with the draft for amendments to the Criminal Procedure Code. The presentation took place at the initiative of  Mr. Tsatsarov on 9 February 2015. The draft has been sent to all heads of parliamentary groups in the 43rd National Assembly.

Speaking to media representatives after the meeting, the prosecutor general explained that the amendments were mostly related to the measures of remand and the enforcement of sentences. The problems related to the evasion of justice and evasion of the execution of sentences, which have entered into force, may also partly be attributed to gaps in the functioning of the court system and the prosecution, he added. The prosecutor general further said that the basic problem though was in the current legislation.

I welcome the Prosecution for the measures it has proposed in such an urgent and professional manner. The proposals may be used in a bill to amend and supplement the Criminal Procedure Code, National Assembly President Tsetska Tsacheva stated. She underscored the Bulgarian society did not want to tolerate the cases of convicted criminals, with effective sentences, who do abscond and prevent the execution of their sentences. She said further, she was expecting the proposals to be duly submitted to the National Assembly by the end of the week.
