Official visit of Georgia’s Parliament Speaker, Mr. David Usupashvili, starts with laying wreaths at the Monument of the Unknown Soldier

The official visit of the Chairman of Georgia’s Parliament Mr. David Usupashvili to Bulgaria has started on 25 February 2015. The visit is held at the invitation of the National Assembly’s Chairperson Tsetska Tsacheva.

Tsetska Tsacheva announced before her Georgian colleague that Bulgaria is supporting the European orientation of Georgia and is ready to share its experience. She recalled that Bulgaria’s parliament had been among the first to ratify the Association Agreement of Georgia to the EU. She expressed hope that all EU member countries will ratify the agreement before their parliaments’ summit in Riga this spring.

The chairman of the Georgian parliament thanked Bulgaria for its steadfast support for the European future of his country. He informed Tsetska Tsacheva about the efforts and the policies undertaken by his country for reinforcement of the democratic institutions and the rule of law in Georgia, as well as about the advancements in the reform of the judiciary.

The two leaders agreed that the relations between Bulgaria and Georgia were at their best level, there were not unresolved issues and the two countries common aspirations were to enhance the mutually beneficial cooperation in all fields. They stressed the particular desire for more active cooperation in the European and Euro-Atlantic integration, including fostering the relations between the two countries’ parliaments.

Tsetska Tsacheva underscored that Georgia was a traditional economic partner of Bulgaria and reiterated the interest of Bulgaria for long-term cooperation in the fields of energy security, transport infrastructure, agriculture and tourism. The economic relations between Georgia and Bulgaria of the last years are developing very fast and as the statistics show Bulgaria ranks 9th among the trade partners of Georgia.

The schedule of the parliamentary delegation of Georgia envisages meeting with the Republic of Bulgaria’s President Mr. Rosen Plevneliev.

The Chair of Georgia’s parliament, David Usupashvili, and the delegation are to be welcome by the lawmakers of Bulgaria on February 26, 2015.  The guests are to meet also with the leaders of the Foreign Policy and European Affairs and Oversight of the European Funds committees. They will be received by the Premier of Bulgaria Mr Boyko Borisov and by the Foreign Minister Mr Daniel Mitov.

The Georgian delegation includes the Chairman of the parliamentary Foreign Policy committee, Mr Tedo Dzhaparidze, Mr Viktor Dolidze, Chairman of the European Integration committee and Mr Levan Kardava, member of the Agricultural Affairs committee.
