Academician Petko Staynov was a big champion of the state of law, something that makes his concepts extremely relevant today, not an easy today, when we continue to look for the most adequate way to establish the rule of law. These words are part of the statement of the president of the National Assembly, Tsetska Tsacheva, made at the opening of the exposition dedicated to the 125th birthday of Acad. Petko Staynov, the prominent Bulgarian jurist, public figure and statesman. The exposition is held at the Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”.
The head of the National Assembly noted that by marking the anniversary of Acad. Petko Staynov, the society pays due respect to a great man – intellectual, politician, jurist, diplomat, public figure. The accomplishments of Petko Staynov in the law sciences are situated between two epochs. He was a brilliant scientist and a professor remembered by many of his students, Tsetska Tsacheva stressed.
In the history of the parliament Petko Staynov will remain as a national representative with his almost 50 years of duty. He was first elected in 1923 on the ballot of the Democratic Alliance Party, as representative of his native town of Kazanluk. Tsetska Tsacheva pointed to the fact that throughout the years he kept being elected by the constituency of Kazanluk, an example that has no parallel.
At the opening she said the National Assembly was keeping the memories of his work as a scientist and teacher, something to be transferred to the next generations. Tsetska Tsacheva has added that the concepts and works of Petko Staynov were in the foundations of many contemporary legislative acts such as the Civil Servant and the State Administration Acts, the Administrative Procedure Act.
Tsetska Tsacheva explained that the exposition would also be presented on the premises of the National Assembly’s main building.
