Tsetska Tsacheva: The accession of Bulgaria and Romania to the Schengen Area will guarantee higher level of security for the entire European Union

Bulgaria had fulfilled all technical requirements for membership to Schengen. Tsetska Tsacheva made the statement during her meeting with the President of the Romanian Chamber of Deputies Valeriu Zgonea. According to her Bulgaria and Romania stand together and it was important that both countries access Schengen simultaneously, something that will ensure a higher degree of security for the EU. She added the efforts made and the results reached in the areas of justice and fight against corruption were visible and called the existing Mechanism for Cooperation and Verification (CVM) to be lifted.

Tsetska Tsacheva expressed satisfaction about the fact that the Romanian Parliament had passed a law proclaiming 24th May as Day of the Bulgarian Language. She said further that thanks to the bilateral relations between the two countries based on the euro-Atlantic values, good neighborly relations and mutual interest Bulgaria and Romania were transforming into regional leaders in Southeast Europe.

As regards to the heightened migration and refugee pressure  Tsetska Tscaheva stated that everything done by Bulgaria and Romania for the greater security of the  external European borders meant the voice of  the two countries should be heard.

The President of the Romanian Chamber of Deputies Valeriu Zgonea noted the two countries were having a common path. They needed to draw benefits from their bilateral cooperation and to continue being reliable partners in the frames of United Europe. During the Talks Valeriu Zgonea proposed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Bulgarian and Romanian parliaments laying down the common positions of the two countries on key issues of regional and strategic importance.

In the frameworks of her visit to our neighbor on the Nord the head of the National Assembly hold talks with the Speaker of the Senate in the Romanian Parliament Kalin Popesku Tarichanu. Both leaders agreed on the necessity of an intensive partnership in the implementation of large scale projects in the economic and infrastructure fields.

Tsetska Tsacheva and Kalin Tarichanu agreed that Bulgaria and Romania hold common interests in attracting investments in the trans-border cooperation, the Danube Strategy, the Black Sea Synergy as well as investments that would enhance the economic development of the border regions.

The parliamentary delegation of Bulgaria includes the Vice President of the National Assembly Ivan K. Ivanov (MP of the Reformist Bloc) and one MP from the PG of BSP Left Bulgaria, one from the PG of DPS (Movement for Rights and Freedoms), one from the Patriotic Front PG and one from the PG of ABV.
