Parliament elects Dimitar Radev as Governor of the Bulgarian National Bank

The parliament has elected Dimitar Radev as the new governor of the Bulgarian National Bank. He was nominated by the parliamentary groups of PP GERB and the Reformist Bloc.

180 MPs took part in the vote, 130 of them voted "yes", 16 “against” and 34 abstained. Dimitar Radev was sworn in office. The term of office of the new governor is 6 years.

Dimitar Radev has a Master degree in Economics, Finances and Credit. In 1994 he had specialized in the Institute for Foreign Relations of Georgetown University, USA. Radev has held the post of deputy finance minister in six governments since 1991. He is experienced in bank management – for 3 years he was member of the Supervisory Board of the commercial “Expressbank”. He was member of the Administrative Council of the Bank for Development of the Council of Europe in the course of 7 years. In the last 14 years Radev has worked for the International Monetary Fund. The National Assembly has voted the dismissal of the BNB incumbent governor Ivan Iskrov.
