The European Union should demonstrate even greater responsibility, solidarity and cooperation in order to cope with the migration and the refugees. National Assembly President Tsetska Tsacheva has emphasized that at her meeting with the Vice-President of the Federal Republic of Germany’s Bundestag Claudia Roth.

Tsetska Tsacheva informed Mrs Roth on the efforts of Bulgaria to tackle the problem with the the refugees. She explained the complexity of the situation at the border with Turkey and added that thanks to the perfect interaction between the Bulgarian and Turkish authorities it is under control. In the view of Tsacheva no member-state could cope with the problem alone, without the help of the other members. Bulgaria is an external border of the EU and geographically stands on the very path of the migration wave.

The vice-president of the German Bundestag noted that currently around 10 000 refugees arrive in her country every day. The expectations are their number to reach between 1 – 1, 5 million in 2015.

Tsetska Tsacheva underscored that Bulgaria applies strictly the international rules for protection of refugees to which Bulgaria is part. In her view a distinction should be made between refugees fleeing conflict areas and economic migrants.

Tsetska Tsacheva has acquainted the guest with the reforms under way in Bulgaria directed against crime and the undergoing reform in the judicial system of the country. She informed Claudia Roth about the  amendment adopted in the Constitution envisaging the separation of the Supreme Judicial Council into two colleges.

The two leaders praised the excellent bilateral contacts between Bulgaria and Germany and reiterated the strategic importance of the cooperation between the two countries.
