The President of the National Assembly Tsetska Tsacheva held a meeting with the President of the European Court of Auditors Vítor Caldeira. The meeting was also attended by the Chairperson of the Budget and Finance Committee Menda Stoyanova and the Bulgarian Representative at the European Court of Auditors Iliana Ivanova.
The National Assembly President welcomed the guest and informed him that his visit is taking place at a time when the National Assembly is discussing on first reading the State Budget for 2016.
In turn, the President of the European Court of Auditors Vitor Caldeira noted that the European Union is also debating its next year budget. Europe is indeed experiencing a difficult period, but we need to look into the future rather than to the past, he said. The guest went on elaborating on the three major challenges the EU is facing today - the need to ensure growth and jobs, to tackle energy and climate change issues and to address growing migration pressure and security related thereto. In his words, there should be greater flexibility in the allocation of European funds which must be used for the implementation of effective and sustainable projects.
The President of the European Court of Auditors Vitor Caldeira is paying a visit to Bulgaria to take part in a conference on “The role of external auditing for effective public sector governance”, organized by ECA.
