The development of parliamentary contacts, deepening of the economic cooperation and establishing partnerships in the fields of science, education and culture were discussed at a meeting between the National Assembly Chairperson, Tsetska Tsacheva, and Georgia’s Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili.
The chairperson of Bulgaria’s parliament noted: “Georgia is an important partner for Bulgaria and we count very much on the long-term and mutually beneficial economic cooperation.” Tsetska Tsacheva rated as excellent the bilateral relations at parliaments’ level, in particular those between parliamentary committees and friendship groups. According to her there exist still unexplored opportunities and prospects for enlargement and deepening of the economic contacts between Bulgaria and Georgia.
“We have to work on facilitating the direct contacts between citizens and businesses”, she added. According to Tsetska Tsacheva, it is important to explore the possibilities for establishing direct air connections between the two countries benefiting in this way not only the business contacts, but also the cultural exchange and communications between people.
“Bulgaria supports Georgia on its way towards European and Euro-Atlantic integration”, Tsetska Tsacheva said. She greeted the guest on the signing of the Memorandum for Cooperation in the field of European and Euro-Atlantic integration, which she evaluated as another expression of the consistent support of Bulgaria in the European perspective of Georgia.
Energy security and policies were among other topics discussed during the meeting. Emphasized was the importance of Georgia in the realization of projects aimed at the diversification of the energy roads and supplies of natural gas for Europe and Bulgaria.
The Premier of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili, stated that his government works actively to enhance the friendly relations with the government of Bulgaria. He noted the two countries have stable base to continue the cooperation in all fields of mutual interest, especially in the fields of energy, transport, trade and communications.
“We appreciate the support of Bulgaria for the accession of Georgia to the European Union and for its integration to the Euro-Atlantic structures “, said Garibashvili . He stressed these are the cornerstones of Georgia’s foreign policy. He evaluated as very beneficial his visit to Bulgaria and added Georgia is a responsible partner and will continue to lead a pragmatic and responsible policy in the region.
