“10th December, 1877 is a bright date in the history not only of Bulgaria but of the whole modern, democratic, European world”, Tsetska Tsacheva stressed in her speech at the celebration of the 138th anniversary since the Pleven Epopee and the liberation of the town of Pleven.

The Chair of parliament, Tsetska Tsacheva noted that behind the battles of Pleven and the consequent victory stand human destinies that are worth remembering, destinies of the soldiers and those of our ancestors. “In the initial years after the Liberation, the town of Pleven received a tremendous economic boost and development thanks to what our forefathers had understood - that we may be strong as long as we are united”, she added .

“The times we are living now are unpredictable – we encounter very often threats to the European values, but I am convinced that if we were to overcome our internal contradictions, if we adhere to our cause, that is to build and make our own town, our own state and the whole European Union prosperous, there will be no force able to prevail and divide us”, stated Tsetska   Tsacheva. “As citizens of Bulgaria we are obliged to convey to the next generation our deep respect and recognition towards those fallen in the trenches and on whose bones stands the freedom of Bulgaria”, she added.

The Chair of the National Assembly was met in Pleven with military honors. Tsetska Tsacheva laid flowers in front of the Chapel Mausoleum “St. George”. Among the guests were many diplomats and representatives of diplomatic missions and many citizens. Many institutions, public, and political organizations, lawmakers laid flowers. The Metropolitan Bishop of Pleven has held a memorial service.
