The chairwoman of the parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs and leader of the National Assembly’s delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Dzhema Grozdanova, visited one of the Refugee Centers in the capital Sofia on occasion of the International Migrants Day. She met with migrant children and offered them presents. She got acquainted with the living conditions in the Center and talked with its managers.

The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe has launched this year an initiative calling on every member state to hold visits to migrants’ centers in their respective countries.

December 18th is declared International Migrants Day by the General Assembly of the United Nations on December 4th, 2000, following a proposal by the UN Economic and Social Council. On that date, back in 1990, the United Nations Organization adopts the International Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families. The Convention was passed in consideration of the growing number of migrants in the whole world.
