Development of regional cooperation, enhancing energy and transport connectivity and Euro-Atlantic Integration of Western Balkan countries were among the main topics discussed by the Chairperson of the National Assembly, Tsetska Tsacheva, with the President of Croatia, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic. The Croatian President is on a three-day official visit to Bulgaria.
The Chairperson of the National Assembly pointed out that regional cooperation is a key priority of the Bulgarian Parliament and added that in this respect of essential importance is the partnership within the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) as a leading political format for regional cooperation and a platform for Euro-Atlantic integration of Western Balkan countries. Tsetska Tsacheva noted that Sofia is a suitable candidate to host the permanent secretariat of the Parliamentary Assembly оf SEECP because our capital has gained experience, our country is a member of the EU and NATO, has good contacts with the European Parliament and a possibility for closer cooperation with the EP foreign policy commission.
The President of the Republic of Croatia, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic, pointed out that international parliamentary cooperation should be strengthened, as it is one of the indicators of modern democracy. She noted that excellent bilateral relations exist between Croatia and Bulgaria, which should contribute to reinforcing relations among the citizens of the two countries and increasing trade and economic exchange. The Croatian President highlighted as a main regional priority the development of regional cooperation and enhancing transport and energy connectivity in the region.
The Chairperson of the National Assembly expressed satisfaction with the cooperation between the parliaments of Bulgaria and Croatia and noted that it is effected through the friendship groups, the parliamentarian committees and through participation of the members of parliament from the two countries in international assemblies. We highly appreciate Croatia as a partner in regional and international organizations, and we think that we have demonstrated common opinions based on identical foreign policy priorities, pointed out Tsetska Tsacheva.
The common view was shared at the meeting that a common European policy and solidarity is needed because it is not possible for any country to cope itself with the refugee crisis.
