Students from different universities and secondary schools in Sofia, Pazardzhik, Stara Zagora and Karlovo pay visit to the National Assembly at Open Doors Day

Students from different universities and secondary schools in Sofia, Pazardjik, Stara Zagora and Karlovo were among the visitors of the National Assembly at its Open Doors Day. The day is held on occasion of the Day of the Constitution – April 16th and the 200th birthday of Exarch Antim І.

Among the young visitors at the National Assembly there were law students, students in political sciences, history and philosophy from different universities; there were students from the secondary schools “Todor Minkov” and “Dimitar Popnikolov” in Sofia, as well as from schools in the towns of Stara Zagora and Karlovo. Foreign tourists visiting the capital had the opportunity to learn interesting facts about the Constitution of Bulgaria and to get around the parliament.

Visitors were most interested in the bell of the Constituent Assembly in Veliko Tarnovo, in the originals of the Tarnovo Constitution and the so called Silver Constitution (the amended Tarnovo Constitution, adopted in 1911). Among the exhibits, presented at the National Assembly were the bishop’s mitre, crosier and personal belongings of Exarch Antim I. He chaired the Constituent Assembly which adopted the Tarnovo Constitution. 16 panels were presenting information on the life and work of Antim I and the events linked with the struggle for the foundation of the autonomous Bulgarian Exarchate and the work of the Constituent Assembly after 1879.

The exhibition is organized in cooperation with the Archives State Agency, the National Historical and Archeological Museum of the Church, the Regional History Museum in Veliko Tarnovo and the Monastery in Klisura “St. Cyril and Methodius”.

At the Open Doors Day of the parliament, the guests were able to walk around the plenary hall and the permanent exhibition, giving an account of the history of the legislature.
