Relations between the parliaments of Bulgaria and Slovenia should be more active and dynamic, is the common opinion of the chairpersons of the two legislative institutions
09/06/2016
We should work for more active and dynamic contacts between the parliaments of Bulgaria and Slovenia. This was the common opinion of the chairpersons of the two legislative institutions expressed during the plenary talks in the National Assembly.

The Slovenian parliamentary delegation led by the Speaker of the National Assembly Milan Brglez is on a three-day official visit to Bulgaria at the invitation of the President of the National Assembly Tsetska Tsacheva.

Bulgaria and Slovenia have excellent relations based on their common Slavonic origins, EU and NATO membership, making it possible for our two countries to cooperate at the highest political and parliamentary levels, said the President of the National Assembly. Tsetska Tsacheva underlined that the dynamics of the meetings aims to intensify economic ties, increase the exchange of goods and cultural cooperation between the two countries. I am sure that the visit of the Speaker of the Slovenian Parliament will give a further impetus to the development and deepening of bilateral relations in a number of areas, she added.

More active parliamentary contacts will help deepen the friendly bilateral relations between Bulgaria and Slovenia, the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Slovenia Milan Brglez pointed out. He underlined that an adequate approach to a functional cooperation between the legislative institutions should be found.

Growth in mutual trade is due to transport and infrastructure connectivity between our countries. These issues are also the subject of debate in the Parliamentary Assembly of the South East European Cooperation Process (SEECP), noted the President of the National Assembly in a statement to journalists after the meeting. Tsetska Tsacheva specified that Milan Brglez will take part in the plenary session of the Assembly in Sofia when Bulgarian Chairmanship-in-Office of SEECP ends.

The Speaker of the Slovenian Parliament Milan Brglez thanked the President of the National Assembly for the efforts our country has made during the SEECP Chairmanship-in-Office. I hope that Croatia and after that Slovenia will continue this work and we will be able to meet the common interests of our region, he added.

Among the issues discussed at the meeting was the setup in relation to the refugee wave, the legislation related to the judiciary reform, as well as the anti-corruption legislation.  Bulgaria as external border of the EU is following with concern the developments of this process, noted Tsetska Tsacheva. We need a common policy for addressing the refugee wave because neither country can cope alone with this problem, added the President of the Bulgarian Parliament.

The official visit to Bulgaria of the Speaker of the Slovenian Parliament Milan Brglez and the parliamentary delegation led by him began by laying a wreath to the monument of “The Unknown Soldier”. Before the start of the plenary talks between the parliamentarians of the two countries the presidents of the two legislative institutions met in the office of the President of the National Assembly.

In the first day of the official visit Milan Brglez met with the President Rosen Plevneliev, with the Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, and with the Minister of Foreign Affairs Daniel Mitov. The Speaker of the National Assembly of Slovenia will deliver a lecture in the Central Military Club, organized by the Atlantic Club.

On 10 June 2016 the Slovenian parliamentary delegation will be in Veliko Tarnovo to meet with the Mayor of the municipality Engineer Daniel Panov. At 6.00 p.m.  Milan Brglez will attend the ceremony in the plenary hall of the National Assembly for award of the laureates of the online essay competition “The young people from SEE for the prosperity in the region”.

On 11 June 2016 the Speaker of the Slovenian Parliament Milan Brglez will participate in a plenary session of SEECP Parliamentary Assembly “20 Years SEECP – New Realities and Shared Perspectives”.
