Austria’s Federal Chancellor Wolfgang Schuessel, who is paying a one-day official visit to Bulgaria, met with National Assembly President Prof. Ognian Gerdjikov.
He thanked Prof. Gerdjikov for Bulgaria’s cooperation on guaranteeing nuclear safety. ‘I know that Kozloduy nuclear power plant is a delicate issue but there are EU requirements which must be observed and Bulgaria will get compensations as well’, Wolfgang Schuessel said.

Bulgaria appreciates Austria’s support on the case of the Bulgarian medics in Libya and is grateful for it, Gerdjikov underlined in the course of the meeting.

National Assembly President Gerdjikov expressed satisfaction with the good military cooperation between the two countries and thanked for the opportunity Bulgarian officers to be trained at Austrian military schools. ‘It is very important with a view to the Strategic Defence Review, reforms and new requirements related to NATO membership’, he said.

In his opinion, the relations between Bulgaria and Austria are very good and there are enough prerequisites to further develop them. ‘I’m glad that I’ll pay an official visit to Austria in October’, Prof. Gerdjikov added.

Economic relations between the two countries were among the subjects under discussion as well.
