NATIONAL ASSEMBLY SPEAKER PROF. OGNIAN GERDJIKOV MET WITH MR. NEIL ANDREW, SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE PARLIAMENT OF AUSTRALIA

Opportunities for exchange of high technologies and tourists between Bulgaria and Australia and for development of bilateral cooperation in agriculture were discussed today at a meeting between National Assembly President Prof. Ognian Gerdjikov and Mr. Neil Andrew, Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of Australia.

Neil Andrew congratulated Bulgaria on its accession to NATO and for the progress achieved by this country towards EU membership.

“We share a common wish – to work on combating terrorism - and the fact that Bulgarian and Australian servicemen are in Iraq is an expression of this wish”, he added.

The sides found that the two counrtiers shared common democratic values which makes the cooperation between them extremely fruitful. There is a slowdown in some extent in trade and economic relations but we will make efforts to overcome it, Prof. Gerdjikov said. He received an official invitation to visit Australia.
