Address by Prof. Gerdjikov in plenary to Patrick Cox, President of the European Parliament
07/07/2004
Bulgaria is particularly obliged to the European Parliament and its President for the successful technical completion of accession negotiations with EU, National Assembly President Prof. Ognian Gerdjikov says in his address.
In the person of Patrick Cox, we hail the President of the European Parliament in whose mandate Bulgaria has made the most important steps on the road to the European Union, Prof. Gerdjikov stresses. In the person of Patrick Cox, we hail also the EU institution which support was particularly valuable for us still in the beginning of the negotiation process.
The Presidency Conclusions of the Brussels European Council last month underlined that Bulgaria is an integral part of the fifth round of enlargement based on the guiding principles and assessment of this country’s own merits, National Assembly President said.
With a view to signature of the Accession Treaty for Bulgaria as early as possible in 2005, we are determined to put our efforts in complying all commitments assumed by this country in negotiation process.
Together with the Council of the European Union and the European Commission, the European Parliament strengthened its key role in the institutional structure of the Union, especially in realization of its legislative functions.
