The proclamation of Independence restored national dignity and honour, says the Speaker of the Parliament Dimitar Glavchev at the fireworks parade in Veliko Turnovo to celebrate the 109th anniversary of Bulgaria’s independence.
Dimitar Glavchev, Deputy Speakers Tsveta Karayancheva and Veselin Mareshki, the Chair of GERB parliamentary group Tsvetan Tsvetanov and MPs attended the celebrations held in Tsar Asen I square. The commander of the parade reported to the Speaker of the Parliament.
With a faith in their own power and potential, the people of Bulgaria affirmed their will to determine their own destiny, said the Speaker of the Parliament. He emphasised that with the proclamation of Independence Bulgaria took its place on the international arena as a sovereign state, which enhanced its credibility, fostered the self-confidence of the people and opened up a horizon of hope for them.
The proclamation of Independence and its recognition come to show that the national cause can be defended with clearly defined goals and common action between institutions, politicians and diplomats, despite the external political circumstances, added Dimitar Glavchev.
He also said that today Bulgaria is part of a political and economic union of states, which guarantees stability and prosperity. On the eve of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, we stand a chance of working to achieve our national priorities, added the Speaker of the Parliament.
