The Bill on Anti-Corruption and Forfeiture of Unlawfully Acquired Assets, sponsored by the Council of Ministers, passes first reading in Parliament; the Anti-Corruption Bill sponsored by BSP for Bulgaria parliamentary group falls through.
The Bill, sponsored by the Council of Ministers, envisages the establishment of a single independent anti-corruption body: Anti-Corruption and Forfeiture of Unlawfully Acquired Assets Commission, which will comprise existing agencies. It is envisaged that the new commission will have operational and analytical functions and its chair will be nominated by the MPs and elected by the first-past-the-post system.
