Romania praises Bulgaria’s efforts to ensure security and manage the migration flow, said Romanian Foreign Minister Teodor Meleșcanu to Speaker of Parliament Dimitar Glavchev. The Romanian foreign minister thanked Bulgaria for its refugee policy.
A parliamentary delegation led by the Speaker of Parliament is on a two-day official visit to Romania.
Bulgaria and Romania are very close, their governments are working to implement joint projects and following this direction, we act quickly to enhance parliamentary dialogue, said the Speaker of Parliament. In his words, this is a natural continuation of the cooperation between the two countries at all levels.
By way of example of the development of parliamentary interaction, Dimitar Glavchev mentioned the joint initiative of MPs from Bulgaria, Romania and Serbia’s parliamentary foreign committees, launched in Sofia in October 2015.
The Speaker of Parliament underscored that the EU integration of the Western Balkan countries was very important and would be a priority for Bulgaria’s forthcoming first presidency of the Council of the EU. It is a challenge and a big responsibility for our country, he said.
The legislative institutions of the two countries need to actively promote cooperation at all levels with regard to the two presidencies of the Council of the EU, said Dimitar Glavchev. They will be an opportunity to improve the image of Bulgaria and Romania, to increase the visibility of the region, and to present our vision for the future of Europe, he said.
Members of the delegation are Vladimir Toshev, Chair of the Bulgaria-Romania Friendship Group, and Filip Popov, Iskren Veselinov, Byurhan Abazov and Krustina Taskova, group members.
