A parliamentary delegation of the Committee on European Affairs and Oversight of the European Funds led by its chair Kristian Vigenin is participating in the 58th plenary Conference of Parliamentary Committees for Union Affairs of Parliaments of the European Union (COSAC). Members of the delegation are MPs and Committee deputy chairs Ivelina Vasileva and Peter Petrov and members Ivan Ivanov and Polina Tsankova-Hristova.

COSAC is held on 26-28 November in Tallinn as part of the parliamentary dimension of the Estonian Presidency of the Council of the EU. On the first day of the plenary there was a meeting of the COSAC Presidency trio, attended by the Chair of the Committee on European Affairs and Oversight of the European Funds, the chairs of the Union Affairs committees of Estonia and Malta, and MEPs led by Danuta Hübner, Chair of the EP Committee on Constitutional Affairs. Among the issues discussed at the meeting were the draft contribution and conclusions of the plenary COSAC and the approval of the candidacy of the new permanent member of COSAC Secretariat based in Brussels.

The working programme of the parliamentary forum includes a discussion of key issues from the EU agenda: “The future of the EU”, “Bringing Europe closer to its citizens: best practices of the national parliaments”, “A single digital market: the state of play in the area of e-services”, “The state of play: building a sustainable Union for security” and “External dimension of migration: preventing and countering illegal migration”.

The chair of the Committee on European Affairs and Oversight of the European Funds is a keynote speaker in the second panel dedicated to the challenges to regaining confidence and bringing Europe closer to its citizens, taking into account the powers and active role of national parliaments in this process after the Lisbon Treaty.

COSAC is the largest parliamentary forum for cooperation and exchange of best practices between the parliamentary committees for Union affairs of parliaments of the European Union.
