Speaker of Parliament Tsveta Karayancheva opened an exhibition “Beyond the Visible”, presented in Parliament in the eve of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, 3rd December. The exhibition includes fine-art photography and portrait drawings by artists living in the nursing home for elderly people with physical disabilities “Ilyo Voyvoda” in Kyustendil.

I am greatly honoured to welcome you in the Bulgarian Parliament, said Tsveta Karayancheva to the guests from the nursing home. On the occasion of the coming celebration, I would like to wish you to be healthy, as health is the most valuable and precious thing, live a calm life and be as smiling and cheerful as you are today, she added.

It is very important that we do not forget the people in need, that we are good, genuine and always respond to the call for help, emphasised Tsveta Karayancheva. As Speaker of the 44th National Assembly I would like to assure you that we are doing our best to make you feel equal and be an important and strong part of the Bulgarian society, she said. I know that we owe you, but there is always room for improvement, added Tsveta Karayancheva.

Life has its ups and downs, and ordeals, and we one is in trouble, it is very important that there is someone to support them, to take care of them and be their friend, said the Ombudsman, Maya Manolova, at the opening. The people from the nursing home for elderly people with physical disabilities “Ilyo Voyvoda” are my friends, she emphasised and thanked the Speaker of Parliament for the opportunity to have this exhibition in parliament. Perhaps this will have a better effect than all my efforts for more justice and respectful attitude to people with disabilities, because what I haven’t managed to achieve with words, this exhibition achieved with its portraits, added Maya Manolova.

The exhibition includes photographs and drawings by Martin Petrov, Teodora Sarbinska, Maya Taskova, Maria Lepopelska, Detelina Tiholova, Violeta Atanasova, Zdravko Anev. Violinist Vladimir Tasev also took part in the presentation. The event was organised by the Ombudsman institution jointly with the nursing home for elderly people with physical disabilities “Ilyo Voyvoda” in Kyustendil.
