Speaker of Parliament Tsveta Karayancheva has opened an exhibition of painting reproductions by Russian painters, dedicated to the 140th anniversary of the Russian-Turkish War (1877 – 1878). The exhibition, which depicts moments of the military action, is organised by the National Movement of Russophiles and Kazanlak Municipality.
The reproductions of the Russian painters look so genuine and realistic that we can immerse ourselves in the atmosphere of that time when all the efforts of the Bulgarian nation were focused on the liberation, said Tsveta Karayancheva. In her words, this period marks a new era for Bulgaria. What could be better than being able to tell our children and grandchildren about Bulgarian history and its heroic moments, she added.
Chair of the National Movement of Russophiles Nikolay Malinov said that 72,000 Russians had died in the war. The strong international response to this war shows that it has managed to combine the spiritual and the pragmatic, he added.
The exhibits include painting reproductions of “General M.D. Skobelev on horseback” by Nikolay Dmitriev-Orenburgsky, “Emperor Alexander II” by Egor Botman, “General Joseph Gurko in the Balkans” by Pavel Kovalevsky, “Shipka-Sheinovo. Skoblelev at Shipka” by Vasily Vereshchagin, etc.
