Speaker of Parliament Tsveta Karayancheva has announced Grigor Dimitrov as the winner of Sports Personality of the Year award. She presented the award to his mother, Maria Dimitrova, at the Sports Personality of the Year 60th anniversary ceremony.

Our sports men and women make Bulgaria famous, they are our ambassadors and pave the way for young people who want to reach the top, said Tsveta Karayancheva at the ceremony. In her words, they teach young people to be strong, brave and know how to do it.

I am honoured to present the award to a sportsman who is among the world’s top tennis players, added the Speaker of Parliament.

Awards for sports personality, team, and sports personality with disabilities of the year were presented at the official ceremony; the winner of the survey of Trud newspaper for Coach of the Year was announced.

The winners received symbolic hand-made plastic artworks by sculptor Milko Dobrev. The Sports Personality of the Year survey has been conducted since 1957 among active sports journalists in the country, and since 2008 voting has been completely online. The ceremony has been taking place annually and by tradition was broadcast live on BNT, BNT HD and Darik radio.

This year again, representatives of the political, sports, and business elite attended the ceremony of the most prestigious sports awards in Bulgaria to pay respect to the achievements of Bulgarian athletes.
