Speaker of Parliament Tsveta Karayancheva has opened an exhibition of paintings and graphic art by Georgi Trifonov from the personal collection of Culture and Media Committee Chair Vezhdi Rashidov.

Culture and Media Committee Chair Vezhdi Rashidov said that the exhibition was organised on the occasion of the anniversary of the great Bulgarian artist and poet Georgi Trifonov (1947 – 2011). He was one of the greatest painters of Bulgarian culture and probably one of the best poets from the end of the 20th and beginning of the 21st century, emphasised Vezhdi Rashidov.

At the opening of the exhibition, the Chair of the Culture and Media Committee said he had suggested that a permanent exhibition should be held in the building where the new plenary hall of the National Assembly would be built. I am willing to donate paintings from my personal collection to the exhibition, he added.

Chair of United Patriots parliamentary group Volen Siderov said that Georgi Trifonov was not only a painter but also a poet. I am pleasantly surprised that his paintings are exhibited in the National Assembly and would like to thank Vezhdi Rashidov for this, said Volen Siderov to the parliamentary Culture and Media Committee Chair. Volen Siderov expressed his support for the idea to have a permanent exhibition at the National Assembly and also expressed his willingness to donate works of art by prominent Bulgarian artists.

Georgi Trifonov was notable for his paintings, plastic art, graphic art, and sculptures, who left a colossal legacy of over 1,600 oil paintings, 5,000 drawings and graphic art prints, 30 wall paintings and plastic art works. He is also the author of ten collections of poems and one script.
