The Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU this year is of special importance for the Western Balkans, said President of Montenegro Filip Vujanović at the meeting with Speaker of Parliament Tsveta Karayancheva. The main topic of discussion were the bilateral relations between Bulgaria and Montenegro and the EU prospect for the Western Balkans in the context of the Bulgarian Presidency launched only a few days ago.
Speaker of Parliament Tsveta Karayancheva expressed satisfaction with the dynamics in the relations between the two countries and emphasised the importance of inter-parliamentary cooperation. She praised highly the visit of President of the Parliament of Montenegro Ivan Brajović, which took place only a month ago.
The Speaker of Parliament said that the EU-Western Balkans Summit in Sofia in May would be the next step in the right direction towards the European development of Montenegro and the Western Balkans. Tsveta Karayancheva emphasised that each country should be assessed on the basis of its individual achievements in the implementation of the criteria.
President of Montenegro Filip Vujanović said that Montenegro was interested in all forms of cooperation with the Bulgarian Parliament, especially with regard to the EU integration. He emphasised that the Parliament of Montenegro worked actively and had already adopted a large number of laws from the European legislative package. In his words, the Bulgarian experience in relation to the adoption of EU legislation was particularly valuable. The guest also mentioned the importance of interaction between the friendship groups in the two parliaments. President Vujanović recalled that Dr. Peter Orahovac from Montenegro had been Speaker of the Bulgarian Parliament.
